Biography

Zala Vidic is a passionate and versatile cellist, dedicated to bringing music to life through solo, chamber, and orchestral performances. With a deep love for collaboration, she performed across Europe, sharing the stage with renowned musicians and ensembles. Her playing is marked by expressive depth, technical refinement, and an innate musicality that captivates audiences.

She discovered her passion for music in her hometown, Novo Mesto, where she took her first steps in musical education. She then continued her studies at the Conservatory for Music and Ballet in Ljubljana under the guidance of Professor Karmen Pečar Koritnik. Eager to refine her artistry, she pursued further education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Professor Reinhard Latzko, eventually finding her way to the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she continued to develop her musical voice with Professor Pieter Wispelwey.

Throughout her musical journey, she has achieved remarkable success in competitions, earning top prizes at national and international levels. Her dedication and artistry were further acknowledged with the esteemed Škerjanc Award, given to outstanding young musicians for exceptional achievements.

A former academist of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Zala has had the privilege of working with world-class artists such as Henning Kraggerud, Kian Soltani, and Nicolas Altstaedt. Her orchestral experience includes performing as a substitute with the RTV Symphony Orchestra Slovenia and Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, where she gained valuable insight into large-scale ensemble playing.

Chamber music is at the core of Zala’s artistic identity. As a member of Cello Quartet Cédez and Piano Trio Sensibile, she had explored a wide spectrum of repertoire, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. She was also member of Asag Quartet from Vienna.

Beyond ensemble playing, Zala is a part of festivals, including the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, Cellofest Ljubljana, Festival Bled and Festival Maribor. These festivals have provided opportunities to work alongside inspiring musicians, engage in artistic exploration, and contribute to the vibrant classical music scene.

Looking ahead, Zala is committed to expanding their musical horizons. Whether performing in chamber ensembles, orchestras, or solo settings, she seeks to create meaningful connections with audiences worldwide.
